EARLY CHILDHOOD SUMMER CAMP

Early childhood camp is led by Sanderling faculty and Sanderling teaching assistants. Camper’s day will begin outside with open free play and crafting then move inside for snack, circle, rest, inside play, and story. The children will engage in a variety of activities: baking, painting, sewing, and gardening. The children will have a balance of free play and focused activities with time in the wonder of nature and imagination.

DAILY PROGRAM: 9:00am - 1:00pm

AFTERCARE PROGRAM AVAILABLE DAILY:

1:00pm - 2:30pm (additional $50 flat fee for each week of AfterCare)

(Sanderling staff will reach out after camp registration to arrange Aftercare with families )

Week 1: June 17 - 21  Immersion in Spanish Culture with Ms. Mongoven

SPANISH a Waldorf Specialty Subject

Immersion in Spanish culture with Sanderling Specialty Subject teacher, Ms. Mongoven. This week of camp will be focusing on Spanish culture through art, craft, music, games and cooking.

Week 3: July  1 - 5  Ubuntu: Part 2

UBUNTU means TOGETHERNESS

Two weeks of camp will be taught by Mr. Mashobane Moruthane assisted by Niklas Hoover. These weeks will be full of activities that encourage movement of the body. Children will be engaged physically everyday at the camp. For the full experience of UBUNTU, we recommend you register your child for both weeks to get the full experience of the whole camp. We will start a day with various rhythmical activities such as drumming , stick drumming and some gumboots dancing and then move to the games, circus skills, gardening, and art. There will be a presentation at the end of the two week camp that includes African drumming, circus acts, and a display of art that children will take home after.

HANDWORK CAMP

HANDWORK a Waldorf Specialty Subject and Yoga

Working with the hands is an essential component of the Waldorf curriculum. These weeks of camp are led by Sanderling Specialty subject teacher, Mrs. Dulin. It develops fine motor skills; persistence and perseverance; and strengthens related brain functions. Handwork includes knitting, purling, crocheting, spinning, simple weaving, cross stitch, four needle knitting, hand sewing, felting, needle felting, woodworking, doll making, and machine sewing. For week 4 of camp, we are coupling handwork with yoga led by teaching assistant, Ms. Abbey.

Week 6: July 22 - 26  

ANIMAL ART CAMP  

Make your favorite animals come to life! Learn to draw, paint and sculpt animals of the earth, air, river and oceans. We will draw and paint critters on paper, fabric and canvas as well as model with papier mâché and clay. Mr. Niklas, a Sanderling teaching assistant, will teach you artistic techniques such as proportional sketching, shading, color blending, and more. Last, not least, campers will enjoy playing indoor and outdoor animal-themed games.

Week 7:  July 29 - Aug 2 

MYTHICAL CREATURES ART CAMP 

Mr. Niklas, Sanderling teaching assistant, will lead the child and let their imagination soar! Campers will draw and paint dinosaurs, mermaids, fairies, dragons, and other mythical creatures. Every day campers will hear stories, from which we will draw our inspiration. Several pieces of art will be completed, and campers will make and bind a small story book to illustrate our favorite story of the week. Each day will have fun play with indoor and outdoor games.
