Frequently Asked Questions

+ DO YOU OFFER SIBLING DISCOUNTS?

Sibling discounts of 15 percent for the second child and 30 percent for the third child are applicable. Sibling discounts do not apply to Extended Day fees.

+ WHEN ARE THE FEES DUE?

The registration fee; 10 percent of the annual tuition cost; and a signed tuition contract are due upon enrollment. The supply fee, activity fee (if applicable), tuition insurance payment and SCRIP deposit all are due June 15 or upon enrollment after that date. These fees are nonrefundable. The SCRIP deposit will be refunded at the end of the school year if the amount of a family's total SCRIP purchases during the course of the year equal a $200 profit for the school.

+ WHAT ARE MY PAYMENT OPTIONS?

Annual tuition may be paid in one annual payment (due August 15 of the school year, or upon enrollment), or in monthly installments of nine payments (due August 15 - April 15). The 10 percent tuition deposit is nonrefundable. Payments are due on the 15th of the month. Any payments received after the 20th of the month must include a $50 late fee. All payments are made online through FACTS Tuition Management. Families need to enroll online with FACTS at http://online.factsmgt.com/signin/4L0R5

+ WHAT IF MY CHILD STARTS AFTER THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR?

If your child enters the program after the beginning of the year, Sanderling Waldorf School will prorate tuition appropriately. Please note that the registration fee is nonrefundable and payable in full for each student regardless of his/her date of entry into the school.

+ IS THERE A TRIAL PERIOD?

When families sign the tuition contract, they are legally committing to pay tuition for that student for the entire year. We provide a six-week trial period during which either the student's family or the school may find good reason for the child to withdraw. Disenrollment during the six-week trial period releases the family from the responsibility for paying the remainder of the annual tuition. Tuition and fees already paid are nonrefundable. After the trial period, families are responsible for the annual tuition, even in the case of early withdrawal for reasons other than relocation of the family or loss of income. Tuition loss due to withdrawal based on job location or loss of income will be covered by the school's Tuition Insurance Fund. For reasons other than relocation of the family or loss of income, if the class is full; a replacement student is found; and a 30-day written notice of withdrawal is provided, tuition may be prorated including payment for four weeks of school after receiving the written notice.

+ IS TUITION ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE?

Tuition assistance may be available for families of students enrolling in the final Kindergarten year and/or Grades 1-8. Sanderling Waldorf School believes Waldorf education should be available to families of all economic levels. We also believe that both the school and these families need to stretch their respective budgets to make this possible. Tuition assistance is completely funded by Sanderling Waldorf School's tuition revenues and fundraising efforts. We do not receive any funds from any other source to make this program possible. Applications for tuition assistance must be submitted by March 18 or upon enrollment after March 18 of each year. Families receiving tuition assistance must re-apply each year. The school is unable to grant every request for assistance.

+ DO I HAVE ANY OBLIGATIONS BEYOND TUITION?

Sanderling Waldorf School is powered by its parent body. Your volunteer participation through community meetings, festivals and other school activities is vital to the health of the school. Nursery/Kindergarten and Grades families are asked to volunteer regularly in various capacities, with a suggested time donation of 40 hours per year.

Tuition Assistance

Sanderling Waldorf School's tuition assistance program is designed to make Waldorf education accessible to families who would not otherwise be able to afford it. We believe that Waldorf education should be available to families of all economic levels, and recognize that the diversity of our students' experiences and backgrounds offers an invaluable depth, beauty and wisdom to the Sanderling community.

Families may apply for tuition assistance for children entering their last year of kindergarten  and for children in the grades.

In addition to the tuition assistance program, Sanderling offers a variety of different payment plans to help families manage their tuition costs, ranging from annual or quarterly payment plans, to a monthly plan that enables payments to be made in ten equal monthly installments.

We recognize that each family’s economic circumstances change from year to year, and that in some years, an adjustment to the tuition may make the difference to whether a family can attend Sanderling or not. We allocate a percentage of our budget each year to fund this kind of assistance for Grades and Kindergarten (1st Grade eligible) students. While we can’t guarantee assistance to every family that asks, we aim to fulfill as many requests as possible.

Tuition Assistance Application Process

  1. Email our Executive Director Doug Reiss and inform him of your intention to apply

  2. Following acceptance into the school, the family provides financial information to TADS, a third-party tuition-assistance organization contracted with Sanderling Waldorf School. Please note that students must apply and be officially accepted to the school before an application for tuition assistance will be considered.

  3. TADS calculates a suggested amount for the family to contribute toward their child's private school education and provides this information to Sanderling.

  4. Sanderling's Tuition Assistance Community determines how much of the tuition assistance recommended by TADS, if any, can be provided to the family. This decision is based primarily on our budget for assistance and the amount of assistance that other families may be requesting. The tuition assistance awards do not cover fees and are capped at 50% of the cost of tuition.

Confidentiality

When you request tuition assistance, only the Enrollment Director, Executive Director and the Tuition Assistance Committee are aware of your request. The Tuition Assistance Committee are the only people who see your financial report from TADS. When the Business Administrator presents the request for tuition assistance for Board decision, the identity of the family is not shared - only the amount of assistance recommended by TADS. If you have any questions regarding this process, please feel free to contact us.
